Apparently this is the 26th annual Umbrella festival to be held in the Craft village of Bo Sang, about 20 minutes out of Chiang Mai city, towards San Kampaeng.

Don’t worry, its a 3 day event, so if you missed it yesterday then pop along today or tomorrow. The festival parade starts at 5pm. There are also stages for live music through the evening and a large food market on the main intersection at the entrance to Bo Sang.

Of course there are also all of the varied craft shops along the main street, with smaller ‘craft market’ stalls in the side streets.

The usual Chiang Mai flair for a good festival was evident once again. There was a long delay in the parade which saw some of the participants looking a little weary as they waited for it to get moving.

It was a great display of the wide variety of styles that have been developed with these famous Umbrellas of Bo Sang.

Nuff said really, I think I’ll let the photos do the talking on this one.

Its been a busy start to 2009, not just for the business but for me personally, as I give my myself more and more to do. This being the case its a very ‘happy’ busy venture, that is giving me much enthusiasm for the year ahead.

1 Just the other day I had another day out with Ally and was introduced to the wonderful site of Wiang Kum Kam.

By all accounts, this fantastic historical site was the original ‘Chiang Mai’ before the River Ping changed its course, flooding the area and burying it in silt. The site was apparently discovered around 20 years ago during preparation work for a football pitch.

Look in again later in the week, for a more in depth write up on this great attraction.

431We also went on to visit Bo Sang Craft village and Wat Doi Saket. You can read a fuller account of this day out in ‘Places to Go’ later today.

Sunday was taken up with The Chiang Mai Toyride which you can read all about in the ‘Get This’ section.

This week will see more additions to our ‘Day in the Life of…’series and new pages in the Photo Guide to Chiang Mai.

So I best stop rambling and get on with it all…see you later. Chok Dee.

Having hired a car for 3 days, it was time to take my family out and about to further enjoy the delights of Chiang Mai.

We rented a honda CRV from my good friends at Jaguar Motorbike and Car rentals, Soi 1 Ratchavihti Rd, off Moon Muang Rd. I have rented various vehicles from here over the last 2 and a half years and always been impressed by the service, price and standard of the vehicles.
